This is a tour to showcase the brave, unique, and wonderfully strong women of Delhi's history and past. The Sultana Walk will touch upon the stories of women of Delhi. These stories are just the beginning of the immense contribution made by these women.

Itinerary

Duration: 3 hrs

The tour will take us through the following places:

  • Anglo-Arabic School: Originally a madrasa (Islamic school), it was initially founded by Ghaziuddin Khan, a general of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, in circa 1690.
  • Ajmeri Gate: Another gate of the forted city of Shahjahanabad, Ajmeri Gate, was built in 1644, to the southwest of the town with a square plan. It was one of the battlefields of the first war of Indian independence in 1857 against British rule.
  • Masjid Mubarak Begum: This mosque was built in 1823 and is said to have been commissioned by Mubarak Begum, who was a crucial player in Delhi's cultural life back in her day.
  • Haksar Haveli: This heritage building was the paternal residence of Kamala Kaul Nehru, the wife of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Independent India.
  • Razia Sultana's Tomb: Razia Sultan was known as the first Muslim woman ruler of Delhi born in 1205. She was known to assist her father, Emperor Itutmish, during his reign and learned about the state affairs contrary to what a girl child would have been allowed to at that period.
